The “City of Firsts” Takes on a Whole New Look

The City of Danville is the county seat of Boyle County and home to over 16,000 residents. The “City of Firsts” has a rich history celebrated by its residents and visitors to this day.

Challenge:

  • Aging and inaccurate water meters
  • Ineffective HVAC systems in city buildings, including City Hall
  • Inefficient lighting at Millennium park
  • Needed to address these issues without impacting other necessary projects
  • Lack of control of HVAC in all city buildings
  • Solution:

  • Replace 8,500 water meters with Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI), which allowed the city to get real-time information on water usage and consumption
  • Provided Harshaw Trane’s intelligent services and preventative maintenance to existing City Hall HVAC system and replace two air intake units
  • Upgraded lighting, heating and air conditioning in multiple city buildings
  • Replaced all four HVAC units at Millennium Park’s buildings and installed LED lighting for the ball fields and concession stands
  • Installation of web-based controls systrems in city buildings
  • Results:

  • Significantly increased building comfort and performance in City
    Hall and other city buildings
  • The tower based AMI system allows for better management of water utility system and enhanced
    customer service
  • Guaranteed total savings of $13.2 million over the 20-year project
