City of Greenville Updates Water System

Located in the beautiful, western hills of Kentucky, the City of Greenville is home to a population of 4,400. The seat of Muhlenberg County is one of Kentucky’s charming, historic, small-town gems.

Challenge:

  • 100-year-old water treatment facility
  • Outdated, inaccurate water meters and system water loss
  • Needed to reduce cost & improve performance of street lights
  • City hall lighting and HVAC needed to be more energy and cost efficient
  • Solution:

  • Replaced approximately 2,300 outdated water meters with water meters utilizing Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) technology
  • Replaced existing gravity filtration plant and chemical storage and feed building, in addition to modifications to the existing sedimentation basin
  • Building and Street lighting – Upgraded to LED Technology
  • Lighting and HVAC updates in City Hall
  • Results:

  • Greenville will have one of the newest Water Treatment Plants in the state
  • The payback from the upgrades is estimated to be over $245,000 annually
  • Guaranteed increase in residential and commercial meter accuracy
  • System will aid in reduction of water loss through better leak detection
