Editorial: Hopeful about FCS energy efficiency project; transparency is key

A multimillion-dollar energy efficiency project at schools in Franklin County will surely pay dividends in the form of reduced electricity bills. Because school officials have set high expectations by estimating savings of $7.3 million over 20 years, transparency with taxpayers will be essential going forward.

At Monday’s Franklin County school board meeting, members unanimously approved a $9.3 million project that will replace HVAC systems at Franklin County and Western Hills high schools and implement other measures to improve energy efficiency, including new ceiling systems at FCHS and WHHS and new insulation at Peaks Mill, Bridgeport and Westridge elementary schools.
